People around wine country often know me by my codename Agent Cru. That's because I'm undercover as CEO of the Wine Spies, a wine e-tailer and eCommerce technology company. Since 2007, we've featured a brand-new wine on our site every single day at the best price on planet Earth for a 24-hour window. I cut my teeth as a "cellar rat" scrubbing barrels at my family’s winery, eventually working my way up to General Manager.

Wine is a very unusual product. It's heavy, fragile, perishable and highly-regulated, making it very difficult to ship. It's subjective art at the mercy of critics and writers. It is a commodity with a great deal of price sensitivity. It's an industry deeply about relationships and connections. It is a business steeped in traditional practices. It's an agricultural business and it's a high-tech business.

Because wine is so multi-faceted, an expert with a good understanding of these many aspects of the industry has some cool insights how all these integrate to get your wine into your glass. I'd be happy to chat about the things I've learned in my 12-year journey through the industry.
